Race 2 – Vaal Racecourse
THE BRIEF showed enormous potential in his first 4 outings before a somewhat lacking 11th at Scottsville in February. He’s been off since and is now under the Gray St John banner. He might need the run but he could still tap that promise from a nice high draw. ALLAROUNDTHEWORLD is in peak fitness and should be able to build on a recent couple of placed efforts now fighting fit.

AFRAAD admittedly is more effective over further but has won over C&D in the past. His speedy pace sees him capable of taking this one out, even outside optimal conditions. FLYING GRACE hasn’t been faring as badly as the raw results suggest of late and is respected dropping in trip.

PRINCESS KESH notched sole career victory here over slightly further and has been doing solid work in defeat against top quality rivals. She was a good 2nd at Listed level at Turffontein 3 starts back and can have her way in these calmer waters. COURANTE has improved with each run and was last seen a convincing maiden winner over 7 at Turffontein when fitted with blinkers. She’s more than capable of doubling down if the selection isn’t able to bounce.

ULULATE and ROUGE ALLURE renew their rivalry, with the former successful latest at Turffontein. ROUGE ALLURE was not far back in 3rd that day and is better at the weights. The selection has won 2 of her last 3 and is expected to be able to confirm the supremacy.

MARDI GRAS is heavily respected under top weight with Kaidan Brewer taking a handy 3lb off his back. He’s winless since last April but doesn’t often run a bad race. IRISH TRACTOR has accounted for the selection in the past and is in good form of late, last seen 3rd over C&D.

CALL ME MASTER is interesting dropped in trip, he does all his best work over further but did place on his sole C&D attempt in the past. He’s capable of a late burst of speed to press his valid claims. LITTLE RAIN won with gusto over this trip at Turffontein in late April and the form has been handsomely boosted since. She’s capable of doubling down, especially if able to find cover early.

DUKE OF RAIN returned from a short rest to win by a short head over the mile here. That followed 3 straight placed finishes following his maiden win over the extended mile here. He’s in fine form and looks ready to continue his ascendancy. BLOOMINGTON was a dominant 3+ length winner over this trip at Turffontein and is capable of foiling the selection.
