Here is our expert runner-by-runner preview of the 2021 Christmas Stakes at Caulfield. Sportsandracing.news provides free picks and tips worldwide.

1 – AWAY GAME

Barrier: 16 Trainer: C Maher & D Eustace Jockey: Jye McNeil

Widely drawn and back from a rest after a decent enough 6th in Manikato Stakes. Useful sort could make a splash down in class if able to find good cover. Good each-way appeal.

2 – ANCESTRY

Barrier: 2 Trainer: P Stokes Jockey: Michael Poy

Talented type with good strike rate but has slipped out of form of late. First time blinkers could do a lot. If bringing absolute best has claims.

3 – SATORIAL SPLENDOR

Barrier: 17 Trainer: J D Sadler Jockey: Michael Dee

Well-backed at Flemington but couldn’t land a blow. Not a great track record here but should at least strip fitter for the comeback outing. Shocking draw, probably best to look elsewhere.

4 – PARSIFAL

Barrier: 8 Trainer: Will Clarken Jockey: John Allen

Respectable 2nd at Flemington latest, has been doing decent work. Should be in peak fitness and pleasingly paired with John Allen. Not a bad place chance.

5 – GRANDVIEW AVENUE

Barrier: 1 Trainer: K M Elford Jockey: Zac Spain

Couldn’t beat a runner home on comeback after 10 odd months off. Did slightly better at Flemington latest but is looking outclassed. No good.

6 – MORRISSY

Barrier: 10 Trainer: L & T Corstens Jockey: Chloe Azzopardi

Losing Damien Oliver is a big hit and just doesn’t seem to have the class here. Look elsewhere.

7 – PREZADO

Barrier: 11 Trainer: Simon Zahra Jockey: Daniel Moor

No positives to be noted, struggles here and hasn’t landed a blow in 5 preceding outings. Absolutely no appeal.

8 – SCRATCHED

9 – MUNITIONS

Barrier: 5 Trainer: James Cummings Jockey: Fred Kersley

Probably looking for longer at this stage but has good place claims after a comeback Pakenham 2nd after a freshening. Form has been boosted, not a bad place bet.

10 – OUTLAWS REVENGE

Barrier: 9 Trainer: Ryan Balfour Jockey: Dom Tourneur

Enters on hat-trick bid, in fine health and has come across from Adelaide for a raid. Strong EW bet and could really make the others work.

11 – SHAMINO

Barrier: 14 Trainer: P Stokes Jockey: Madison Lloyd

Not much to say, not much to like. Better over shorter. Awful draw.

12 – CURRAN

Barrier: 6 Trainer: L Tolson & L Proctor Jockey: Matthew Cartwright

Fresh from 27 days off, wasn’t disgraced in 6th here latest. 4 wins and 4 placings from 12 starts a solid stat. Will relish extra run, could bolt up and surprise. Not a bad option.

13 – RAINBIEL

Barrier: 13 Trainer: Anthony Chibnall Jockey: Linda Meech

Was lacking in 11th in Begonia Belle at Flemington, strong prior efforts. Now down in grade at course he has found frame in all 3 outings. Has won at this level in past. Very good player at a nice price.

14 – VAINSTREAM

Barrier: 15 Trainer: John Pascoe Jockey: Craig Newitt

Weakened late at Pakenham latest after near 12 months off. Upped in class from bad draw. Too many question marks with little appeal.

15 – EXCESS FUNDS

Barrier: 4 Trainer: Mark & Levi Kavanagh Jockey: Daniel Moor

Needs to improve to land a blow. Highly unlikely to do so, not a real contender.

16 – BROADWAYANDFOUTH

Barrier: 12 Trainer: Mitchell Freedman Jockey: Tahlia Hope

Does strong late work, down in weight and should be fighting fit. Pick of the roughies but not saying a lot in this field. There are worse place bets if you want a longshot.

17 – MARABI

Barrier: 7 Trainer: C Maher & D Eustace Jockey: Jamie Kah

Unbeaten mare with powerful connections, freshened for task and is very competitive at weights. Arguably one they all have to beat. Market loves her, $1.5 odds seems a bit stiff but still hers to lose.

18 – GINGER JONES

Barrier: 3 Trainer: Andrew Noblet Jockey: Patrick Moloney

Up in class after 196 days off. Ambitious effort expected as loves running fresh but unlikely to land a blow at this level.
