Belmont Park:
Race 2: 1st@ 3.75/1 ?????
Race 3: 4th@ 2.85/1
Race 5: 3rd@ 3.20/1
We started the day with Shutters in Race 2 – when do you ever get 7/2 on a Chad Brown runner on the turf in a NY maiden race? Today was the day! Shutters stalked the early pace and kicked it in when it counted winning Race 2. In Race 3, Perfect Munnings didn’t give us much of a run for our money checking in 4th well behind the top two finishers and in Race 5, Al’s Rocket lagged early on debut and made a nice run into the stretch closing to nab third. A small profit for the day thanks to Shutters!
Let’s take a look as some more races from Keeneland & Belmont Park where we expect fast and firm conditions at both tracks with cloudy weather at Keeneland and sunny skies at Belmont Park. Let’s get to the action:
Keeneland:
Race 7: Mun Luv – 1 pt win (US Morning Line Odds: 4/1)
Taking a stand against Chad Brown’s likely heavy favorite here coming off a layoff and going with a bit of recency. Mun Luv owns the field’s second and third best speed figures on dirt behind Goodnight Olive who’s lined at 6/5 but is only three points away from that one and has been facing some challenging fields lately while “Olive” has been on the bench. Trainer Ray Handal is 1 for 1 here at Keeneland so far. Three second place finishes at this distance in including her top speed figure say this one is knocking on the door – ready to break her maiden.
Belmont Park:
Race 1: School Of Thought – 1 pt win (US Morning Line Odds: 7/2)
Maiden claimers to start our Friday! While some big name trainers like Todd Pletcher and Brad Cox struggle in these types of races, trainer Chad Brown continues to excel winning with 30% of his maiden claimers overall. While School of Thought hasn’t exactly run a hole in the wind in any of her starts, she has put up speed figures that fit with the best of these. Top rider Irad Ortiz is named to ride and this one has plenty of workouts on her work tab that suggest she’s ready to go. Based on percentages this one’s supposed to win. I’d be very surprised if you get 7/2 on this one.
Race 9: Crowded Trade – 1 pt win (US Morning Line Odds: 6/1)
Today’s feature race is The Carle Place – a 7 furlong turf sprint and we’re continuing our love affair with Chad Brown runners at overlaid prices. Crowded Trade owns the fields top speed figure which he earned in the Gotham earlier this year losing by a nose. After a third in the Wood Memorial and a flat run in the Preakness they brought this one back sprinting only to run into the buzzsaw that is Jackie’s Warrior. After that he caught another tough field. Today he faces the softest field he’s faced since his debut albeit on a surface he’s untested on but he races for the top turf trainer in North America by a major winning turf sire with Joel Rosario in the irons. A definite bet at 6/1 or better as he’s very much the class of this field.
Best of luck to everyone playing Friday’s races from Keeneland and Belmont Park!
