Race 5: SCRATCH
Our day began in ?EXCITING? fashion as our first selection of the day – Vienna Code – went off at 13.30/1, stalked the pace and pounced to win by nearly 3 lengths ! In Race 3, Twelth Man ran his heart out but with two scratches, there was no speed left to press Trash Talker who went on to a clear-cut and decisive victory. Another WINNING day though for our members! ??

Let’s take a trip to Keeneland for opening day of their fall meet. Graded Stakes action on the agenda all weekend. We’re expecting partly cloudy skies with fast and firm conditions. Let’s get to the action!
Keeneland:
Race 3: Cabertoss – 1 pt win (US Morning Line Odds: 5/1)
Starter Allowance runners go a mile and a sixteenth and I generally don’t like picking runners who are racing first time for a new barn but Cabertoss’s new trainer – Lon Wiggins has a win percentage that’s more than twice as strong as his old trainer’s win percentage. Cabertoss looks to get a favorable setup on the pace shipping in from Indiana Downs and going turf to dirt. With no real standouts here, this runner might still be overlooked despite the fact that he’s got the best speed figure of the field for all of 2021. Value at 5/1 odds.
Race 8: Quick Tempo – 1 pt win (US Morning Line Odds: 20/1)
The Grade 2 Phoenix Stakes at 6 furlongs serves as a major prep race for the Breeder’s Cup Sprint which is now just a short month away and every year I feel like there’s a runner that comes from left field to surprise and run either first or second at long odds. This year I think that runner is Quick Tempo. Trainer Chris Davis isn’t a household name yet but he’s put together a nice 18% win year with 184 runners and is 1 for 5 in Graded Stakes efforts. As the runner who appears to have the best early speed, the rail is usually an advantageous position. Sure he lost to Special Reserve 3 races back but that one’s coming off a July 31st layoff and we know this isn’t his main goal so he may not be ready to fire his best shot. There are other speed runners in here but I’m going with Quick Tempo to out-sprint them all early and hang on to post a major upset in the Phoenix.
Race 9: Juju’s Map – 1 pt win (US Morning Line Odds: 5/2)
The Grade 1 Alcibiades Stakes is a springboard to the Breeder’s Cup Juvenile Fillies which will be run a month from today. Several flashy maiden winners knock heads but Juju’s Map strikes me as the most impressive of the bunch. Bet hard in her first two starts to odds-on favoritism, Juju’s Map came through with a victory last out with her stretch to a mile. That makes her one of only three in this field of 12 with a victory at a mile or more as most of these are running a route of ground for the first time. Juju was well within herself winning last out and appears to have slightly better early speed than her main rival – Penny Saver. Trainer Brad Cox wins with nearly 30% of his graded stakes efforts and Juju might just lead them from flag fall to that’s all in the Alcibiades.
