JUST THE MAN should be fitter for a recent flat spin despite not landing a blow. His latest 3rd at Kempton was against a better field and he’s down 1lb. This looks his prime opening for a post-maiden win in these ranks. MANINSANE was in a spot to contest the finish before falling at the last at Doncaster back in December. He could bounce back with Theo Gillard taking a handy 5lb off.

Race 2 – Hereford Racecourse
PERRYVILLE was denied victory when 2nd by a head when sent off at 25/1 at Down Royal. Now making UK/yard debut for Melanie Rowley he could gain due compensation if not in need of the outing. ZESTFUL HOPE was unlucky to fall on debut at Market Rasen before heading into the hurdle ranks and landing a promising 3rd at Catterick. With that under his belt he can continue to mature.

Race 3 – Hereford Racecourse
SWITCH HITTER won well enough on chase bow at Hereford and was close to backing it up at Ludlow last month. A critical error saw him have to settle for 3rd in the soft that day. A return to better ground and a shortened trip can see Paul Nicholls’ charge bounce back. TORIGNI made a few errors at Leicester latest but was still doing good enough work to eke out a half-length victory. He can back it up off 1lb higher if he can sharpen up his jumping skills.

Race 4 – Hereford Racecourse
POWERSTOWN PARK had excuses when pulled up in the Lincolnshire National and was an emphatic 7+ length winner at over C&D prior to that. Conditions are tipped to suit and he can make a nice recovery despite being 9lb higher. KAUTO THE KING found things a bit much when 6th in valuable handicap at Kempton latest. He could recover some momentum in these calmer waters.

Race 5 – Hereford Racecourse
ERITAGE gets the nod in a 3 horse field, with a drop in trip and drying conditions possibly able to jolt him back to the standard we saw in late 2020. PRINCE ESCALUS found the frame in both outings over fences and could challenge the selection for the spoils if not in need of the outing.

Race 6 – Hereford Racecourse
STRATAGEM posted a respectable 3rd at Chepstow off a 145 mark back in March. He has since had wind surgery and is down 2lb. If he isn’t too rusty this looks very winnable for Paul Nicholls’ lightly-raced 6 year old. COUSIN PASCAL is the danger having won his last couple including the Foxhunters’ at Aintree when last seen in April. He has a hat trick on the line and has fitness on his side after a few spins in the point-to-points in late 2021.

SWEET AUBURN is a winner between the flags who made a winning rules/yard debut for Don McCain when home at Sedgefield with a useful 8+ in hand. The 7lb penalty is unlikely to anchor her if she can muster a repeat effort. MINNIEMUM was a respectable 4th on debut at 66/1 at Ffos Las and now running with experience could sharpen up nicely.
