TAKE TO WAR showed the right stuff when 4th on debut over 5f here, landing within a length of the front. He improved readily when a prominent run saw him 2nd by a neck when upped to this trip here. He can take the next step with his normal improvement likely to be enough. EXCEED EXPECTATION has appeal now fitted with blinkers after making the frame the last twice and could come forward nicely.

INTREPID needed the run when beating just one home on comeback after a couple months off. He should sharpen up for the effort and has pole position to press his claims on return to the C&D he won his maiden over. FIGHTER was one place ahead of the selection that day and also needed the run. He is a fellow C&D winner who could come out swinging today.

VERNICHEY and RUSSET AIR sport very similar profiles, being Grade 1 winners making a comeback spin preparation for the main events on the Cape. They both might be dusty after extended absences but can prove too classy even then.

DESTIN is a C&D winner last seen beating one home over this trip at Durban. A closer look shows that to be a decent piece of form as he was within a length and ¾ of the front. He has pole position today and could offer the youngsters a challenge. GALLIC TRIBE is respected off the back of a dominant 5 length win over this run at Durbanville and will likely have more to offer.

MEL’S PRINCESS had been improving markedly with each run until finally delivering a nice maiden win over this trip at Durbanville. Now she’s tapped winning form she might be able to trace it to another win under penalty. GREENGROWTHELILACS is a trip winner already and was a strong 4th on return from a spell. She has exciting prospects and can sharpen enough to be a player here.

PINK TOURMALINE has 2 wins from 6 runs here so clearly doesn’t mind it here. She has placed in 2 of her 3 efforts over this trip and should be fighting fit for her comeback 5th late last month. BALLROOM BLISS has been sliding down the handicaps and looks poised to turn things around after a very strong 4th in a much better race. She should also benefit from the extra furlong of run as she seeks to recapture her best.

EXCEEDER showed strong improvement when 2nd over this trip at Durbanville sporting first-time blinkers. A similar showing should see him able to go one better but he’s likely to find more love in the betting here. SUNDAY ISLAND returned from a couple of months to strike the crossbar. He did the same 14 days later when fitted with blinkers, coming within a head of the win. He is on track for an open account and is well-drawn to do so.
