BOURBON BEAT was yet to make any sort of positive impression until he returned from his latest spell to find 2nd at 33/1. This is another sort who needs to prove their improvement can be backed up.

BEND THE RULES has posted solid enough efforts in his last couple of runs including over slightly longer here to suggest his normal progression will see him a contender. THE GREEN GALLANT had excuses in 9th last time but his penultimate C&D 2nd by a neck was excellent and a similar show can be well-rewarded.

HIROSHIMA remains a 12 start maiden but has seen enough improvement for the fitting of blinkers to suggest she’s on the right track. The mile seems her ideal trip range and she won’t have to dig too deep in this field. SPARKLING FLAME has found the runner up berth in her last couple of AW appearances and can launch a very convincing bid from pole position.

TUPELO HONEY has won her last 2 in convincing style since being paired with Rachel Venniker. The hat trick looks winnable and her claim is invaluable as is a draw of barrier 1. INDIGO MOON landed her maiden by a neck over this trip here on the turf track. She needed the run when 3rd on comeback and looks a chance to transfer the form across surfaces.

Race 5 – Greyville Racecourse
QUICK STAR is lightly raced on this surface but has landed a win and 2 places from 4 runs. Well-raced on turf she’s proven himself effective and the return to Poly looks a good move. FIGHT SONG won well over slightly further here at the start of the month but this is a tougher task so he’ll have to build on that effort here.

KNIGHT WARRIOR is a past C&D winner who has been more useful on AW of late so should benefit from the return. Three starts back he found a good 2nd and a similar effort could be rewarded. RUNNING FREELY had the situation more in hand than the head margin suggests of his 6f win here latest. The up in trip should be workable and he remains competitive.

Race 7 – Greyville Racecourse
HUMDINGER won at Scottsville yesterday and if she takes her place here could find the hat trick if she takes to the AW. Obviously trip suited Kyle Strydom works well with her and she could take a lot of beating. SPACE RACE is a classy filly from the Highveld and her sole C&D outing saw her a dominant 3+ length winner. She could be ready to comeback and maintain that unbeaten streak.

GUY FOX failed to fire latest as he went down in trip in first-time blinkers while also contending with a shocking draw. Now dropped slightly more and without the headgear from barrier 2 we should see a much-improved positing from this Garth Puller gelding. FREEDOM DANCER was last seen 2nd by neck over slightly longer here. A 16 start maiden he looks to be doing the right sort of work and should attract a bit more support here.
