LAURETTA MIA doesn’t often run a bad race and as last seen 2nd by a head over C&D. A similar effort here could pay off if she overcomes the wider draw. GRACE LIGHTNING is a reliable sort who is unfortunate to be a 17 time maiden. She is unexposed over the mile and could take another step forward.

JOE HARMAN has given us a few glimpses of potential in his 10 runs under Stuart Pettigrew. Now making local/yard bow for Gavin Smith, he could really relish the Polytrack. SUPER FUN was a solid enough 5th on debut before coming back on 2nd start to land 2nd by ¾ of a length. Another up in trip could see Juan Nel’s charge go one better from pole positon.

Race 4 – Fairview Racecourse
PRINCESS OF FIRE is 3 from 3 over C&D and can regain some confidence after a handful of mixed efforts since winning here in October. SENESCENCE ran a belter to score over C&D with 3+ in hand on just 2nd outing for Gavin Smith. She could get another one in, having a clear aptitude for Polytrack.

Race 5 – Fairview Racecourse
STAR OF THE SOUTH was a useful Western Cape performer under Brett Crawford, particularly in his outings in the latter half of this year. Now in the capable hands of Alan Greeff he wouldn’t be out of place bolting up if taking to the synthetic. ALADO’S PRIDE has won both outings since shifting to these surrounds and the Zietsman Oosthuizen team, over the turf and Poly tracks here. He has a superb hat trick on the line and could land it.

JET MIRAGE has really come into his own since joining Gavin Smith and being fitted with blinkers. Winning nicely over the turf here and posting respectable efforts in defeat on the AW he has every chance once more. ROCK GARDEN won well over C&D on penultimate outing and hasn’t done much wrong in 4 outings. He could probably use a move to a longer run to take the next step forward but still has fair claims here.

REGIMENTAL is 4 from 4 over this surface, including 3 legs over C&D. Last seen regaining the winning thread over 5f here he should relish the return to 6f. WHATEVER NEXT is significantly better than the 12th we saw at Kenilworth. His prior efforts are all superb had plenty of his wins have been franked.

DIAMONDS AND TOADS has been nothing short of consistent since joining Gavin Smith, finding a place in all 8 outings including a C&D win 3 runs back. She has struck the crossbar the last twice and is entitled to get back on the scoreboard. PERFECT ANGEL was denied by ½ a length over C&D latest and has fair compensation claims, she seems suited to this surface.
