Race 2 – Turffontein Racecourse
SECOND BASE returns from a spell after a campaign at Grade level that had mixed results. This is likely a preparatory run for a return to the big leagues but he can notch a success on the way. IMPERIAL RUBY is respected as a C&D winner who is coming down markedly in trip following a ½ length defeat into 2nd over 2m at Greyville. He probably needs further at this stage of his career but is nonetheless capable.

PHANTOMOFTHEFOREST is getting better as he goes and looks primed for his biggest effort yet now sporting first-time blinkers. He should be nice and fresh as he seeks to defy a wide draw. BURGESS could be a danger now well-drawn following a couple of lacklustre efforts here. Blinkers are retained and they appear to be aiding his cause.

Race 4 – Turffontein Racecourse
WHITE FANG won with 3 in hand over C&D on penultimate outing before having to settle for 3rd to the reopposing FLYING FIRST CLASS. Now better off at the weights, the selection could overturn the form after a short rest. FLYING FIRST CLASS has been toppled by a head since and could bounce back as she is in top shape of late.

UNITED EXPRESS hasn’t been far beaten in both outings since scoring by a head over 5f at Vaal. A return to 7f from a nice draw could set her up for success. SILVERY BLUE is a speedy sort who hasn’t been far beaten of late. She has a wide draw but should still give a good show.

CAPTAIN PEG has won both starts to date, improving markedly to score with 4+ in hand at Vaal latest. She’s looking very hard to oppose on hat trick bid for Stuart Pettigrew. SPECIAL VARIETY has posted a mixed bag of results but is quite capable of entering the equation, especially if the selection fails to fire.

LUCY IN THE SKY scored over this trip at Vaal by half a length 3 starts back. She’s been beaten less than a length in both outings since and should be in the mix as an honest mare who has plenty of scope for improvement. WHAT A HONEY returned from 133 days off to score by a neck over 6f here. With improved fitness and another furlong of run she could double down.

RIDGE TO REEF was well-backed over this trip at Vaal but couldn’t get into swing and had to settle for 3rd. Blinkers come back on and he could get his act together. ANGELSEA got the account open by a short head at Scottsville latest and could be anything now having tasted success.
