A promising 2nd on debut over this trip at Newcastle she’s fancied to have learned enough to go one better. COLOURFUL DREAM was a place back in 3rd to her stablemate and could battle it out but she seems 2nd string based on riding arrangements, albeit Daniel Muscutt is more than capable.

Race 2 – Southwell Racecourse
BABY STEPS returned from a few months off when a solid 3rd over 7f at Wolverhampton. A return to the mile and drop in class looks ideal now the cobwebs are gone for David Loughnane’s charge. LOVE YOUR WORK is respected off the pick of his recent Southwell form but is a 3 times C&D winner who can press his strong claims for the in-form Rebecca Menzies.

MAGIC GEM has struck the crossbar the last thrice since being refitted with blinkers. A couple of them have been short heads on the line and he’s looking the sort to gain due compensation here with Rhys Clutterbuck’s 3lb claim entering the equation. DIVINE CONNECTION took a fair step in the right direction when 4th over C&D latest. That was her best effort since joining Craig Lidster and can be built on off 1lb lower.

Race 4 – Southwell Racecourse
JACK RYAN has been threatening a win for some time and he won’t have to build much on his latest ½ length trip 3rd at Lingfield late last month in a moderate contest. ARLO’S SUNSHINE showed his best to date when 3rd over C&D when last sighted and looks capable of making a bold showing.

INTUITIVE weakened late when 4th but was looking good for most of the run, now dropped back to his winning trip he can get back on top for the Crisfords. AL RUFAA isn’t the most consistent runner for the Gosdens but when he brings his best he can take plenty of beating so is worth a market check despite the fairly long absence.

Race 6 – Southwell Racecourse
INTERVENTION is rapidly turned out following a double just a day apart in late February. He has a scheduled rise coming and can make the most of being 12lb well-in to land a superb hat trick for Mick Appleby. IGOTATEXT looks best of the rest, off the back of a neck 2nd at Lingfield mover this trip and looks the sort to have more to come in these ranks with Hollie Doyle certainly getting improvement out of him for Archie Watson.

MAHARASHTRA has had a superb winter season, winning 4 of his last 6 including a couple over C&D. He’s under a 5lb penalty but looks the one they all have to account for. MORLAIX found things a bit hot when upped in grade at Lingfield latest and can make his presence felt now down in calmer water at a course he has won at.

MYRIAD took an up in trip in stride when shifting to front-running tactics at Chelmsford latest, getting his account open with 2+ in hand. A couple months off should do him well and he can continue his ascendancy now upped in trip once more. GREAT EMPRESS is proving highly progressive for Mark Johnston and could prove to be the primary challenger to the selection aspirations.
