DO IT FOR THY SEN won this with 8 in hand 12 months ago and gets the vote to defend his title. He has been doing excellent work in defeat of late and is only 2lb higher than last year. SALAMANCA SCHOOL caught the eye when home by 14 lengths at Plumpton on penultimate run but he wasn’t able to back it up in 5th. He’s entitled to another chance to show that was no fluke.

Race 2 – Southwell Racecourse
DEBECE returned from 2 months off to score by an enormous 49 lengths at Warwick 6 days ago. That was admittedly a 2 horse race but the standard of his jumping was fantastic and he’s capable of bringing the same standard today. STRATAGEM failed to fire when sent off favourite in 4th at Cheltenham but his prior form sees him very dangerous for Paul Nicholls.

MRS GRIMLEY has proven progressive in 3 starts in bumpers across the Irish Sea. Now having changed hands for £45,000 she’s now under the care of Ben Pauling and looks well-set to make a splash. ROCCSTAR BAY is the danger on rules debut for Nicky Henderson, especially in recept of weight from all rivals.

BALKOTIC is up 4lb for a very convincing win at Sedgefield 3 weeks ago. His front running tactics can be rewarded by the drop in trip today. MONEY SPINNER is proving slightly difficult to win with but has shown us plenty of potential. He’s capable of picking up the silver medal as he gains his footing.

RED MAPLE did everything right when victorious at Worcester 19 days ago. Jonjo O’Neill’s charge has been handed a 5lb hike for the effort but looks more than capable of a double now having tasted success in these ranks. OVERTOUGEORGE took a step in the right direction when 2nd on return to timber following a fruitless campaign over fences.

HEURE DE GLOIRE had the situation well in hand in first-time blinkers when scoring over 2m at Ffos Las back in March. She’s had some time to rest and recovery and looks capable of further achievement up in trip off 7lb higher. AYR OF ELEGANCE is back from 302 days off and is capable of going well after an absence. She’s going to benefit from the run regardless but can feasibly aim for the frame.
