WOODLAND RETREAT attracted solid market support on debut and found just one useful type too good. Now trying the turf we could see Michael Miller’s filly go one better. ONLY HEARTS is the danger to her stablemate after a debut 2nd by a neck over minimum trip here on the turf. Serino Moodley has the ride and the pair could prove too strong.

GLADATORIAN gets the nod on debut for Dennis Drier as a regally bred Vercingetorix colt. IRON MONGER is also worth a look for the Gareth Junior team, watch the betting in this one.

RUN AGAIN was a very respectable 4th over C&D on debut, not attracting much market support. With that under her belt she can sharpen up nicely for Corrine Bestel. QUEEN MERCURY has posted a couple of promising placed finishes on the turf, including over C&D 3 starts back. William Nel’s filly could have a say here.

Race 4 – Scottsville Racecourse
PASHTUNWALI wasn’t at his best over this trip at Greyville latest in his first appearance since winning his maiden over that same track and trip. He might have just needed the outing and now launching from a solid draw could take another step forward. PREEMPTIVE STRIKE is a hit and miss sort who could find marked improvement over the nice long straight at this track. He is best not underestimated.

Race 5 – Scottsville Racecourse
GO MAN GO found the frame in both appearances in late 2021, he races well fresh and now launching from the best of the draws could take plenty of stopping. ANTIGONUS is a past C&D winner who notched a nice hat trick midway through last year. His best recent effort came on the Poly latest but any recapturing of last season’s standard sees him a big player from a solid draw.

Race 6 – Scottsville Racecourse
SCENT OF A WOMAN has done all her best work on the Polytrack but now she’s tasted success for Glen Kotzen, she could transfer the standard back to turf over an ideal trip. MISS LIALIAH was a solid 3rd in a better race over 6f at Greyville and has to be respected. The drop in trip might not be ideal but she does have fair claims.

Race 7 – Scottsville Racecourse
PRAY FOR RAIN has found the frame the last twice and doesn’t often run a bad race. He probably should have won more than he has but does represent a strong contender in a quality field. MOUNT PLEASANT was an impressive winner over C&D back in December before finding the mile too stiff on Boxing Day. A return to these conditions can foster an immediate recovery.

Race 8 – Scottsville Racecourse
LIKETHECLAPPERS did better than the raw result when 7th on debut over 6f here back in December. Now with that under his belt, Duncan Howells’ colt can show more now afforded an extra couple of furlongs to operate over. CORAL COPY has found the frame the last twice over longer trips and is very intriguing now dropped back to the mile. Keep an eye on this one.
