A similar showing could see him make amends with a legitimate victory. MORNING SUN gets a big nod on debut as a Sir Michael Stoute colt out of a mare who’s other 3 offspring have gone on to land black type.

TAJALLA is a Roger Carian debutante worth considering as a well-bred sort with a nice 90,000 Guinea asking price to boot. FRAGRANCE sports an even more impressive 105,000 Guinea price tag and comes out of a decent enough dam for Mark Johnston.

AUDIENCE won well at a decent price on debut with 3+ in hand over C&D back in October. He’s had 167 days off since and this Gosden colt still looks hard to oppose off that run with Frankie Dettori taking over in the saddle. ANTHEM NATIONAL rates the danger off the back of a super 3rd at Listed level in the Spring Stakes. All 3 outings have come over synthetic but if he takes to turf he could land a blow for the in-form Crisfords.

Race 4 – Newmarket Racecourse
HORTZADAR was denied over this trip at Redcar by a nose off this mark 10 days ago. He remains 5lb below his last win, which was way back in September 2020. He has a strong trip record and could retrace the winning thread if reproducing that run. CAROLUS MAGNUS will not go down without a fight having won both appearances here including a 2 length C&D victory when last sighted in September. A 5lb higher mark will make things harder but Andrew Balding’s charge looks up to it.

MASEKELA posted a couple of convincing wins as a 2 year old, including at this level over 7f at Newbury back in August. He seems the type who should only get better as he matures and he gets a big nod to make a winning return after 201 days off. SONNY LISTON won with an emphatic 5+ in hand on debut at 18/1 odds at Sandown last July. The form hasn’t exactly aged well and a long absence leaves question to answer but he’s an improving sot of good breeding so could build nicely.

ABLE KANE does all his best work over this trip, capping off 2021 with a 2 length win over this run at Leicester. A 4lb higher mark seems him within reach of doubling up with improvement likely. IBIZA ROCKS was a couple of places ahead of the selection in 2nd when they met as Ascot back in October and could confirm the form if he bounces back from a lacking Doncaster appearance, now a gelding representing a red-hot team.

TWILIGHT CALLS has yet to run a bad race, winning twice last year and posting plenty of solid efforts in defeat. He won his maiden after a similarly long absence so could well make a big splash on return as a gelding with a bright future. NIGHT ON EARTH isn’t going to lie down on hat-trick bid as he returns to turf where he is fairly effective. The 3lb hike isn’t an alarming one but the poor draw isn’t ideal.
