LUCIA JOY improved with each run before opening the account on attempt number 4 when fitted with cheekpieces. Now going handicapping off a fair 75 and paired with William Buick we can expect a big effort. ESHTORA won on debut before finding a valuable conditions event a bit much at Kempton. Now handicapping, this Crisford filly looks dangerous off a mark of 77.

VICTORIA GROVE gained plenty of valuable experience as a juvenile, including at G3 level over C&D. Now back a 3 year old with Ray Dawson taking the ride we can expect lots of improvement. PUBLIC OPINION is well-bred and changed hands for 100,000 Guineas. Expect a convincing effort.

Race 4 – Newmarket Racecourse
BAGUE D’OR capped off last season with a ½ length defeat into 2nd at Yarmouth and looks in a good spot to go one better on return. He’s fairly unexposed still and is highly trip suited. FRONTISPIECE made a splash when 2nd 10f at Newbury on comeback run last month. With the cobwebs gone he could prove too strong.

SPECIAL ENVOY gets an enthusiastic vote on debut for the Gosdens as a regally-bred 850,000 Guinea purchase who should know exactly what to do here. AIMERIC is no slouch, having made a wonderful first impression in 2nd at Nottingham last month. Roger Varian’s colt will have plenty to say here.

Race 6 – Newmarket Racecourse
BOLTHOLE is a debut winner who made fair headway when 3rd on comeback run after 217 days off and wind surgery. With that spin to work from he’s capable of notching a deserved post-maiden win. HAUNTED DREAM has proven highly progressive, notching a nice double in the space of a week. He has a fair shot at a hat trick off just 4lb higher.

DAMAAR won well over 7f at Sandown on debut and while not quite up to scratch since, he’s tried without cheekpieces and paired with a 7lb claimer so could fire up nicely for the Gosdens. KITSUNE POWER opened the account on handicap bow at Leicester last month and could have more to come off just 5lb higher with Ray Dawson retaining the ride.
