WISE EAGLE was a promising 4th on comeback run over C&D latest after 193 days off. With the pipes open he can get up on a surface he has taken to since joining Adam Nicol. MON FRERE returns from several months off after a hurdle win at Wincanton. He is very interesting coming back to the flat after a few years and could build on his already solid flat form.

Race 2 – Newcastle Racecourse
TATTERED FLAG learned plenty on debut in 6th over C&D, heading to Lingfield and landing a short head 2nd in first-time cheekpieces. With that under his belt he can go one better on return here with Jack Mitchell retaining the ride. TEUMESSIAS FOX has found 3rd in both runs to date and is no doubt talented but the extra 3 furlongs leave some questions to answer for Andrew Balding’s colt.

SOCIETY RED is in top shape of late, winning 3 of his last 4 for Richard Fahey. He wasn’t disgraced when denied by ¾ of a length on penultimate run and can notch up another unbeaten streak off 2lb higher than his Wolverhampton win in February. PREJUDICE is sliding down the ratings and could make a move off his lowest mark since 2018.

Race 4 – Newcastle Racecourse
IMPERIUM held off all challengers from top weight over this trip at Kempton back in late January. He is off 3lb higher and looks to have plenty more to come. NICHOLAS T is a huge danger as the incumbent winner of the Northumberland Plate and was last seen a narrow victory over C&D in December. He does not always go well fresh but could put up quite the resistance despite being a 10 year old.

ROXZOFF has a hat trick firm in the crosshair after compelling 7f wins at Wolverhampton and Southwell. Now upped to the mile he is every chance of securing the coveted prize with 6lb more to weather. ALVEDISTON is interesting back from 126 days off, he represents top connections and is well-worth a market check.

ALJARI is 14lb below his last winning rating as he has been dulling somewhat. A return to this longer trip and a course he’s won over might see him given another shot at rekindling the flame. OLD NEWS can pick up the pieces if the selection is well and truly expired. He is pleasingly paired with Tom Marquand and has been posting solid improvement since returning to the AW.
