OUR IDIC BOY won with authority over C&D on penultimate start and wasn’t disgraced when settling for 2nd under penalty at Ludlow 4 days later. A return to this track can see him get another score under his belt. FREETHINKER could offer the most resistance off the back of a 22f win here, the extra run could unlock enough improvement for him to challenge.

Race 2 – Newcastle Racecourse
CHORAL WORK is under penalty for a dominant score at Taunton over this trip on first outing for Olly Murphy. She’s fancied to double down as she faces the boys. GALAHAD THREEPWOOD gets a mention on hurdle/yard bow for Ben Pauling. He was a decent runner on the flat and could prove a shrewd recruit.

ALGHAZAAL was a good flat runner in Ireland who did manage to get a score in at Dundalk. He has since shifted to timber where he’s failed to impress but now with sights lowered, trying the handicaps may well sharpen up. Brian Hughes taking the ride is another big positive as this looks very winnable. PHOENIX STRIKE is the best of the rest, off a Sedgefield 3rd but doesn’t quite excite.

Race 4 – Newcastle Racecourse
EDMOND DANTES was promising over timber but made huge improvement for a shift to fences. A 2+ length winner oat Market Rasen, Ruth Jefferson’s gelding is well-poised to double up despite a 9lb hike in the ratings. VOCALISER is 6lb below his last win and looks capable of another decent showing after being pulled up at Bangor-on-Dee when last sighted.

NIETZSCHE looks well-treated here off 121 compared to his 127 chase mark. A 5lb claimer helps his case as he seeks a confidence boosting score wherever he can find it. EMPIRE DE MAULDE gets a nod on return to timber after some excellent efforts in the chase ranks. He goes well fresh and could pick up where he left off way back in 2019.

RAFFLES GITANE held off all rivals with style at Huntingdon latest and over the same trip off 8lb higher she can make for a nice double in a 3 horse field. The runner-up at Huntingdon has boosted the form healthily since. SLANELOUGH is respected having found the frame the last thrice since landing a nice double in 2021. He’s still effective at 10 years old but will do well to concede weight.

BELLA BLUESKY is a highly progressive hurdler, especially since joining Ewan Williams. Her Kelso win reads well here and she’s likely to find further development now handicapping off a 104 mark. NIKOLAYEVA landed a few decent wins on the flat for Mick Appleby and has since been acquired by Jamie Snowden. She has found the frame in both outings over timber and looks like she should contest the finish as she tackles the handicaps.
