He wasn’t great in 5th latest but is much better off at the weights and paired with William Buick. RESHOUN was the winner of the aforementioned race but is up 5lb and that may well be enough to turn things around.

Race 2 – Goodwood Racecourse
BAYSIDE BOY was only beaten 2 lengths when 7th after being short of room in the St James’ Palace at Royal Ascot. A slight drop in class might be enough for him to put that run to excellent use, with Ryan Moore a pleasing booking. BERKSHIRE SHADOW was a place ahead that day and may prove vulnerable to a clear run for the selection.

Race 3 – Goodwood Racecourse
NOBLE DYNASTY lived up to expectations when a 2 length winner over this trip at Newmarket on return form 250 days off track. With improved fitness, Charlie Appleby’s charge looks primed for a strong double effort from gate 3. SINJAARI enters off the back of a narrow trip win at Sandown and is capable of making a fair effort at a nice price under penalty.

Race 4 – Goodwood Racecourse
ACKLAM EXPRESS exceeded expectations when 3rd at 200/1 odds in the King’s Stand at Royal Ascot. He’s likely to be taken much more seriously in the betting this time as eyes go on him to back it up. RAASEL is a conventional alternative, having won 3 of his last 4, including at Listed and G3 levels.

REBEL’S ROMANCE proved a highly talented sort on the AW, winning 4 of 7 outings on the surface. He made a strong transfer to turf when home with 3+ in hand following a slow jump at Newmarket. He’s shaping up to be one of the best Charlie Appleby has to offer and is likely the one they have to beat. REGAL BEAUTY gets a mention for Sir Michael Stoute as he heads up in trip following a fair 2nd at Sandown over 10f. His yard took this race out in each iteration from 2016 – 2018 and we could see that score added to here.

Race 6 – Goodwood Racecourse
CALIFORNIA GEM showed ample promise when not far beaten into 4th on debut. She backed it up perfectly when going to win her next couple of starts. Now she has a hat trick on the line as she heads up in trip for the first time, with an opening mark of 87 being workable. BOLT ACTION is a debut winner who was a very respectable 6th in the Windsor Castle at Royal Ascot. He gives weight all round but looks likely to remain competitive for Roger Varian.

HIGHLAND PREMIERE gets the vote for Mark Johnston, who has a handful of runners here. On riding arrangements, it seems he’s their primary choice, with Frankie Dettori’s booking never going unnoticed. He has been consistent in defeat of late and this may be his turn. OMNISCIENT has improved measurably as he goes and was a pleasing 5+ length winner in a Yarmouth maiden handicap 8 days ago. He can take this up in class in stride and mount a fair bid for a double.
