Race 1 – Ascot Racecourse
HATHLOOL has done all his best work on synthetics but his latest 3rd at Doncaster, while keen was still promising. A drop back to the mile can see him get an open turf account. MARK OF RESPECT was agonisingly denied by ¾ of a length over this trip at Windsor on season return. He’s entitled to compensation and is 2lb better off despite a 1lb rise thanks to his rider’s claim.
Top Tip – HATHLOOL (7)
One to consider – MARK OF RESPECT (8)

FRAGRANCE was a most pleasing debutant when 2nd to a useful rival at Newmarket earlier this month. With that under her belt, Mark Johnston’s filly looks the one to beat. WHISTLE AND FLUTE is the danger off the back of a dominant trip win at Bath on debut. He represents Even Johnson Houghton, who trained last year’s winner but the concession of 8lb to the selection is a big ask.
Top Tip – FRAGRANCE (6)
One to consider – WHISTLE AND FLUTE (2)
Race 3 – Ascot Racecourse
ETERNAL PEARL sports a hefty 700,000 Guinea price tag and makes debut for the mighty and in-form Charlie Appleby with William Buick in the irons. She’s regally-bred and can make a winning debut for last year’s winning yard. QUEENLET learned plenty on debut in 9th at HQ and put it right to work at Newbury over this trip, winning with conviction. Willie Haggas’ filly has Tom Marquand booked once more and the team demand respect if not just for experience.
Top Tip – ETERNAL PEARL (5)
One to consider – QUEENLET (3)

Race 4 – Ascot Racecourse
WORDSWORTH is a useful Aidan O’Brien colt who edged out a gritty comeback win at Gowran 20 days back. He posted some seriously good efforts in defeat at top levels, including 2nd in the Grand Pre De Paris and 3rd in the Irish Derby. He’s in form and looks capable of getting his way here on the way to bigger and better. QUICKTHORN is a highly progressive sort who made a strong comeback when 2nd at Nottingham 3 weeks ago. With the cobwebs gone he’s likely to give a strong account reunited with tom Marquand at a track he likes.
Top Tip – WORDSWORTH (6)
One to consider – QUICKTHORN (4)
Race 5 – Ascot Racecourse
GO BEARS GO was a superb juvenile, winning at G2 level on his 3rd start for David Loughnane. Beaten by a length at G1 level in the Phoenix Stakes and the Middle Park, he looks to have found an opening for a winning return as he winds up for another shot at the top level. WINGS OF WAR enters off the back off a narrow victory in the Mill Reef at Newbury. He’s done little wrong to date but is unproven after a break and may struggle to concede 4lb to the selection.
Top Tip – GO BEARS GO (3)
One to consider – WINGS OF WAR (1)

Race 6 – Ascot Racecourse
VALIANT PRINCE is in top shape of late, winning a nice double in Saudi Arabia early in the year to secure a hat trick. He is back from a short rest and looks up to task on the hunt for black type. SIR BUSKER filled 3rd place in last year’s iteration of this and should be entering at peak fitness after some noble efforts in defeat in Group races in Dubai.
Top Tip – VALIANT PRINCE (4)
One to consider – SIR BUSKER (3)
Race 7 – Ascot Racecourse
PETTOCHSIDE is the defending champion and is still capable of backing it up at 13 years old. He made a pleasing return from 201 days off when a staying 3rd at Epsom earlier in the month. Between that effort and Sadie Osborne’s 4lb claim he looks in a good spot to get home at a decent price. MULZIM is an interesting sort who does all his best on the AW. He’s capable of getting in front over turf and is worth a market check.
Top Tip – PETTOCHSIDE (11)
One to consider – MULZIM (1)
