- Keeneland hopeful of revised dates
- Rescheduled date for Blue Grass Stakes an Ashland Stakes
- Kentucky Derby week reshuffle
- Ellis Park to reopen on June 28
Discussions are ongoing between Ellis Park and Keeneland as the Lexington track looks to host a shortened summer meeting.
Keeneland has been forced to cancel its spring racing schedule this year due to the COVID-19 crisis. However it hopes to announce new dates for a summer schedule.
The Toyota Blue Grass Stakes (G2) and Central Bank Ashland Stakes (G1) remain a priority.
Both are regarded as key qualifying races on the updated Road to the Kentucky Derby and Road to the Kentucky Oaks.
Like every other jurisdiction across the globe, these meetings will be held behind closed doors.
Preakness Stakes rescheduled for October 3
“We’ve had very positive discussions with our friends at Ellis Park,” Keeneland vice president Bob Elliston said.
“We’re hopeful that soon we’ll be able to make an announcement this summer.
“I’m very optimistic we will reach an accord.
“There will be an opportunity for Keeneland to race some dates this summer.”
Kentucky Downs and Ellis Park have both been forced to adjust their meetings in September to prioritise Churchill Downs’ request to run the Kentucky Derby week from September 1-5.
As part of the planning, The Kentucky Oaks would be held on September 4, and the Kentucky Derby the following day.
Ellis Park is scheduled to reopen on June 28 after Churchill Downs’ spring meet.
