Breeder’s Cup Friday kicked off with Triple Tap in Race 1 – our only “non” Breeder’s Cup race of the day. The half brother to American Pharoah dropped back off the fast early pace and reeled in the pacesetters with each and every stride. We expected Baffert to make a statement to start the weekend and that’s what he did. In Race 6, the Juvenile Turf sprint, Kaufymaker sat the trip off the speed, swung out in the stretch while being floated out by horses inside of her and closed to lose by just a length. In Race 7, the Juvenile Fillies, Juju’s Map broke slowly and that allowed Echo Zulu to get a clear lead early and it was all over from there. Juju’s Map pushed on to be second. In the Juvenile Fillies Turf, Koala Princess was between horses most of the way. By the time she switched out, the race was over. She finished 7th losing by feeer than 3 lengths. So much of navigating these big fields is getting the right trip. After the scratch of Jack Christopher, the expected pace dual in the Breeder’s Cup Juvenile didn’t happen and Corniche galloped away on the front end as the favorite. Oviatt Class was given a ground saving ride, checked off heels into last on the far turn and was motoring late from last of 11 to 5th. In the Juvenile Turf race, Portfolio Company led the field til the top of the stretch before he put the cue in the rack.

A first, a second and a third from 6 selections.
