BANHA BRIDGE has been thereabouts of late, notching a couple of wins and several placed efforts since August. This C&D has been good to her and she’s well-drawn to shoot for a double against a field sports some rivals she is proven against. BATTLEGROUND stormed home with a healthy 7+ in hand over 9f at Turffontein when shedding the maiden tag last month. The extra few furlongs could aid her cause.

Race 2 – Vaal Racecourse
BILLY SPELLBOUND wasn’t great in 9th latest but is better judged by his earlier form, including his maiden win over C&D when first fitted with blinkers. They are retained today and he could bounce back now on home ground. TOTAL PROTECTION is a temperamental sort but if he behaves, he could prove a big threat from barrier two.

MOVER AND SHAKER notched a solid post-maiden success over C&D latest following some mediocre efforts in defeat. With improved form on his side he could live up to his name here. EXISTENTIALIST could offer some resistance as a trip winner but has to improve on his comeback 9th here 12 days ago.

Race 4 – Vaal Racecourse
SAMOA has found the frame the last twice and seems to be hinting at another tilt at success. She has done all her winning at this course and could have more in her at 9 years old. INSATIABLE was a neck and a place behind the selection when 3rd here last month. She could make a bid to reverse the result but her 9th here 5 days ago leaves a lot to be desired.

SILVER MENSA found the frame in her first 3 outings before being fitted with blinkers and opening the account convincingly over C&D last month. She should have plenty more where that came from and can plenty of progress here. ROSE FOR TRIPPI has a habit of giving away a lot of ground at the jump but has also proven herself twice over C&D. If she can rein that in a bit she could make for 2 wins from 3 starts.

Race 6 – Vaal Racecourse
DUKE OF RAIN is far better than the 100 length 9th we saw at Turffontein on penultimate outing. He did well enough when 3 lengths 3rd when dropped to this trip there at the end of the month. On return to his winning C&D he could really turn things around. SOUTHERN BLAZE scored convincingly enough over 7f here latest and shouldn’t be troubled by a return to the mile.

Race 7 – Vaal Racecourse
MERIDIUS was a cosy winner over slightly shorter in December before backing it up nicely with a neck 2nd over 7f last month. Another go over the mile should prove ideal and he should find himself thereabouts. TRIDENT KING looks the obvious danger, he hunts for a hat trick and has been in stellar form since joining Roy Magner. He is yet to win over the mile but hasn’t shown many reasons to doubt he can.

SMITH AND WESSON landed 2nd by a head in a blanket finish over this trip at Turffontein 10 days ago, outrunning his 25/1 odds. Another bid could see him notch a deserved 2nd success for Paul Matchett. STROKE OF MERCY shed the maiden tag with an impressive 4+ length success at Turffontein. He was denied a double by ¾ of a length and should give another solid account.
