BATIK has landed 2nd best the last twice and should be able to contest the finish once more, with the return to this trip possibly sparking further improvement.

NORTHERN TUNE is a 26 start maiden but has posted a handful of efforts that suggest he could get it right any day now. DESERT FOX looks good, especially if the selection can’t muster any improvement. A respectable 3rd on debut over C&D he should come forward markedly for the experience.

BACK TO THE FUTURE gets the vote in a field with plenty of newcomers. Not much in 9th on debut she sharpened markedly when 2nd over C&D since. WOW showed her best yet when 3rd on return from a 3 month spell. She should only get better with improved fitness.

Race 4 – Vaal Racecourse
EAST COAST won his maiden over 7f here on 2nd start and has not been disgraced in 2 placed efforts since. A return here could be the key to getting him back on the board, with his rider taking a handy 9lb off. CLIMATE CONTROL won his maiden over the mile at Turffontein when last seen in May. A slight up in trip is of little concern but he may find himself in need of the run.

ANTIGUA NIGHT is proven over this trip range and has been doing good work in defeat in both post-maiden outings at Grade 2 level. Now in calmer waters she can get another score under her belt on the way back to the big leagues. KISS ME CAPTAIN is dangerous, a winner of both starts to date she’s in a good spot for a hat trick if she muster the further improvement required.

SPIELBERG kicked things off with a nice 3rd over 6f at Turffontein before being dropped to C&D, winning both starts convincingly. Now making yard bow for Robyn Klaasen he is looking hard to beat on hat trick bid. TWICE AS SPLENDID has found the frame the last twice and would not be winning out of turn from a nice high draw.

MIRREN had to settle for a ¾ length 3rd on hat trick bid at Turffontein at the end of September. She has become something of a revelation since joining the Barend/Vosloo team and it wouldn’t take much to see her back on top. BANHA BRIDGE is respected as a last start winner but that was on the Polytrack. His turf form is good enough but his local form raises some questions.

BERENGARIA found blinkers to be the missing piece of the puzzle, winning both runs since being fitted with them. She’s a big chance for a hat trick with the drop back to 7f potentially helping her weather the penalty. BURMESE TIARA could be dangerous, making yard bow for an in-form team and having done all her winning over this trip.
