As racing resumes in Britain from June 1, two racecourses have combined for a whopping total of 823 entrants.
Gosforth Park in Newcastle will open Britain’s return to racing on Monday, June 1 and have been met with 369 entrants – an average of 37 nominations per race ahead of their 10-card showpiece.
Meanwhile on Wednesday, June 3 Kempton Racecourse which is trialling a number of horses ahead of the Classic season has surpassed that figure with 454 nominations.
Kempton will host a nine-race card and Newcastle a nine-race card but will be limited to a dozen runners in each contest.
It comes in the wake of the British Horseracing Authority releasing its policies and procedures document which all racetracks are compelled to comply with.
Of the many policies put in place, a reduction in field sizes has been implemented as the BHA looks to minimise risk.
Racing has been on pause since March 17 throughout Britain, however, the British Horseracing Authority announced new dates for its Classics, subject to government go-ahead.
Newmarket’s 2,000 and 1,000 Guineas is scheduled for 6 and 7 June, Royal Ascot will run from 16-20 June, the Epsom Derby and Oaks will be run on Saturday, 4 July with the Eclipse on 5 July rounding out the major Classics.
Pinatubo and Arizona headline the 2000 Guineas on Saturday, June 6.
