LAST ROYAL found a clever rival too good when 2nd over slightly further at Exeter latest. An unchanged mark and a field lacking that calibre can see Kieran Burke’s gelding get an open hurdle account. KAYD TAOI caught the eye on hurdle bow when ¾ of a length 2nd at Hereford at the end of January. Now fitted with cheekpieces and running with experience over timber he might have a say for Paul Nicholls.

Race 2 – Wincanton Racecourse
UBETYA is a useful sort in all spheres of the National Hunt ranks and made a pleasing comeback after 422 days off to land 2nd to a useful rival on yard bow for Paul Nicholls. The same mark can see him go one better in just his 4th start over fences. CHAMPAGNE COURT is a reliable operator in these ranks and has been in superb form since October. He could easily get away if he brings his best.

BOOMBAWN is a highly progressive Dan Skelton charge who returns from a few months off and a wind operation. He has found 3rd in both runs over timber and looks quite hard to beat in this sort of line-up. NAME IN LIGHTS caught the eye when 3rd over C&D latest and the form has been franked nicely so he’s well worth considering for Colin Tizzard.

Race 4 – Wincanton Racecourse
ALBERIC was in control for most of the way when edging out a ½ length maiden win at Huntingdon over this trip back in January. With that under his belt he can go well once more for the in-form Phil Hobbs despite a 6lb hike. EROS is a reliable performer who has landed in the money the last 4 times in these ranks. His 92 mark is very exploitable with Ben Godfrey once more taking a further 3lb off.

EVENTFUL won with absolute style when shedding the maiden tag at Plumpton latest. She had shown usefulness without winning on the flat but has proven herself suited to the NH ranks. With that run to build on and a 5lb hike to manage she looks quite competitive. RUBYS REWARD is respected as the runner-up that day and is 4lb better off. She could reverse the form but doesn’t quite have the same exciting prospects just yet.

Race 6 – Wincanton Racecourse
HENSCHKE has been consistent over timber of late and has only improved for the recent wind operation. He had an unlucky fall on penultimate run but bounced back well enough in 3rd at Plumpton despite weakening late. He can go very well now dropped in trip and in fighting shape. SMOKING PIGEON went down by ½ a length over a similar trip at Huntingdon after wind surgery. Off a 4lb higher mark she could press for deserved compensation.

WEST APPROACH enters off the back of a couple of solid efforts in these ranks including a 25f win here on penultimate outing. He wasn’t disgraced in 3rd at Lingfield since and looks quite capable off a 132 mark with Freddie Gingell once more taking 7lb off. ADRIEN DU PONT demands respect off top weight but will do well to concede 4lbn to the selection. He landed a superb double with double digit margins last year before being well-beaten into 4th at Stratford when last seen in May.
