WEST APPROACH gets the nod in this 2 horse affair, shaping well enough on comeback run at Warwick last month. He is 10lb below his last winning mark and could get back to it here. ALCALA won’t lie down as Paul Nicholls seeks to defend the title having trained last year’s winner. He won twice in March last year and this could turn into a genuinely compelling duel.

Race 2 – Wincanton Racecourse
CHAMPAGNE COURT is in top shape, having won over hurdles on penultimate outing and was a good 2nd over fences at Kempton since. He won’t have to do much to notch another win in these ranks. ECCO is a bit out of shape of late but could find a revival as he is very well-treated off last season’s efforts.

Race 3 – Wincanton Racecourse
SIROCCO JO is much better than the 4th we saw at Lingfield latest. He races well fresh and could return to the standard that has seen him win twice over a similar trip at Newbury. NEBUCHADNEZZAR is respected as a useful enough flat runner and hurdler, he hasn’t quite got the hang of chasing but is likely to find some improvement.

Race 4 – Wincanton Racecourse
PETTICOAT LUCY made all to win with 3 in hand over 15f here and is very interesting going significantly up in trip under penalty. PLENTY OF TIME is a winner between the flags and made a strong impression when ¾ a length 2nd on hurdle debut over 20f here. Expect further improvement for the experience.

Race 5 – Wincanton Racecourse
HONNEU D’AJONC needed the run when 9th in France on comeback back in September. He has blitzed it since, with form lines of 12121 and looks quite capable of another score in these ranks off 6lb higher. THANKSFORTHEHELP has found the frame in both outings over timber and should be in the mix once more.

Race 6 – Wincanton Racecourse
FRERE D’AMRES made a very pleasing debut under rules for Dan Skelton when 2nd at Ludlow over 2m. He went one better at Huntingdon, with a very useful 6+ in hand. He can notch another score as he continues his ascendancy. STANLEY PINCOMBE caught the eye when 3rd at juicy 66/1 odds on hurdle bow at Wincanton. He can only get better from here out but don’t expect that sort of price.

Race 7 – Wincanton Racecourse
EL PASO WOOD was a fantastic winner with a huge 34 in hand over slightly further to take out the Somerset National here last month. The 10lb rise is fair and manageable so he gets the nod to double down for David Pipe. JEREMY PASS is in a good pocket of form of late and should be fit and fresh after a couple months off. He has the tongue-tie and cheekpieces combination fitted and will relish any easing of conditions.

ANNIE WICKS showed enough to work with when 3rd at 25/1 on debut at Plumpton in December. With experience to work with she can go a couple better for Evan Williams. FISHCAKE has some useful relations and is worth a look on rules debut for the powerful Nicky Henderson operation.
