COMPLETE UNKNOWN won well on debut in the bumpers before joining the Paul Nicholls team where he has found the frame in both outings over hurdles. He could be looking for the stiff test today. CITY CHIEF is notable on rules/yard bow for Nicky Henderson having won well between the flags in Ireland.

RED ROOKIE is proven useful in the bumpers and over timber and suggested to be just as useful over fences when 2nd by a neck on chase bow at Chepstow in early November. He can go one better despite the 6lb rise. BRAVE SEASCA was 6th that day but has gone on to win with 10 in hand since. The 7lb penalty might leave him open to the selection, however.

Race 4 – Ascot Racecourse
JONBON made a graceful transition to hurdling when backing up a Newbury bumper win with a 6 length win over timber there. He won between the flags before then so landed an unofficial hat trick. He can secure a real one here with a bit of improvement. I LIKE TO MOVE IT could prove the danger, despite conceding weight all round. A fetching winner the last thrice, Nigel Twiston Davies’ gelding could prove too strong on the hunt for a quartet.

PIC D’ORHY was looking like a winner at Newbury before falling 4 out late last month. He opened the account prior to that at Ffos Las and could get some deserved compensation. FAIVOIR has won 2 of 3 chase appearances and has to be considered in this sort of field.

HENRI THE SECOND was a rapid improver when landing a Chepstow event on rules bow back in October. Now running with experience he can double down nicely. TOP DOG was tracking for a win of his own before a critical error in the final moments saw him touched off by 3/4 of a length. He could be wiser for the experience and has fair place claims regardless.
