Almond Eye closes in on Greatness

Japanese champion Almond Eye will contest the Group 1 Yasuda Kinen in Tokyo on June 7.

And she should win it, she’ll hold the record for G1 victories by a Japanese-trained horse on turf.

Fresh off the back of her first run for 2020, Almond Eye obliterated the competition in emphatic style, winning the Victoria Mile with ease.

If anything, she made it look like light track work.

French jockey Christophe Lemaire guided the five-year-old to her seventh career G1 triumph, however the pair are already looking ahead to what could be one for the history books.

The G1 Yasuda Kinen in Tokyo will now be Almond Eye’s next conquest, with the stable previously hinting it would send her to contest the prodigious race.

More to come.
