1 – SIMPLIFICATION
Trainer: Antonio Sano Jockey: John Velazquez
Solid 4th in the Derby, has won or placed in 6 of 8 runs to date. Does well here but isn’t paired with Jose Ortiz this time. A fair chance but will require some improvement.
2 – CREATIVE MINISTER
Trainer: Kenny McPeek Jockey: Brian Hernandez Jr.
Progressive sort, has won 2 of 3 starts and is interesting making stakes debut. Connections are clearly confident and there’s plenty of value to be had here. Include in exotics but also a strong each-way bet.

3 – FENWICK
Trainer: Kevin McKathan Jockey: Florent Geroux
Not much to like, can set an early pace but is likely to fall off. No market support for fair reason. Look elsewhere. Notable for being son of 2007 Preakness winner.
4 – SECRET OATH
Trainer: D. Wayne Lukas Jockey: Luis Saez
Had huge difficulty in Arkansas Derby but salvaged run to find 3rd. Kentucky Oaks winner who is shaping up to be one of the primary contenders. Must include in all exotics and warrants serious consideration for win purposes.

5 – EARLY VOTING
Trainer: Chad Brown Jockey: Jose Ortiz
Speedy sort who remains lightly-raced. Caught the eye in 2nd in Wood Memorial and has been saved for this task. Another who needs serious consideration, especially noteworthy as Jose Ortiz’s chosen mount. Big player, cannot leave out.
6 – HAPPY JACK
Trainer: Doug O’Neill Jockey: Tyler Gaffalione
Played up getting into the gate in the Derby and was a pure menace on the track after the jump. Well-bred and sporting blinkers but just too temperamental to land a blow. Look elsewhere.

7 – ARMAGNAC
Trainer: Tim Yakteen Jockey: Irad Ortiz
Has struggled at this level of late and isn’t quite up to standard here. Not completely out of it but doesn’t inspire much confidence. Consider but be ready to look past.
8 – EPICENTER
Trainer: Steve Asmussen Jockey: Joel Rosario
Came agonisingly close in Derby when battling all the way to the line to land 2nd. Highly likely to be in the mix in the dying moments but may be in need of rest. Strong market support and will have to be included in all exotics. Big chance but isn’t unbeatable in any sense.

9 – SKIPPYLONGSTOCKING
Trainer: Saffie Joseph Jr. Jockey: Junior Alvarado
Been in good form since 3rd in Wood Memorial, does have some work to do but is a fair place chance. Notably most experienced runner of this line-up but has only 2 wins to his name. Place bet makes most appeal.
