1 – KNICKS GO
Trainer: Brad Cox Jockey: Joel Rosario
Defending champion, winner of 5 Grade 1 races. Has won his last 4 in style and when he gets his head in front he is nigh-impossible to topple. 4 of the 5 winners of this event have kicked off by a Breeders’ Cup Classic win and he checks that box and did so last year when winning this. Has the best draw and looks hard to oppose here. They all have to account for him to have any chance.
2 – CHESS CHIEF
Trainer: Dallas Stewart Jockey: Reylu Gutierrez
Was a decent winner in the Tenacious in December and preceded that with a victory in the New Orleans. That is where he does his best work, this is his local debut and while he should put forth a good pace this is a tough task, especially against Knicks Go.

3 – STILLETO BOY
Trainer: Ed Moger Jr. Jockey: Kent Desormeaux
First time racing on the East Coast, was an excellent front-runner when taking out the Iowa Derby but still has a lot of work to do. Respectable 5th in the Breeders’ Cup Classic, could find a placing and is worth including in any exotics.
4 – LIFE IS GOOD
Trainer: Todd Pletcher Jockey: Irad Oritz Jr.
Took out the Breeders’ Cup Dirt Mile with 5+ in hand, hit the front and never looking back. Similar style to Knicks Go but does have work to do after the above drew the pole. Has been preparing for this task since then. If any is likely to topple Knicks Go it is this son of Into Mischief. Could do so but will require a career-best effort. Still, can never rule out such an occurrence. Each way bet?

5 – EMPTY TOMB
Trainer: Rob Falcone Jr. Jockey: Paco Lopez
Late entrant, not a lot to like about recent effort but respect for joining Rob Falcone Jr’s string. He is up against better opposition and is highly unlikely to be able to land a blow of any sorts. Look elsewhere.
6 – SIR WINSTON
Trainer: Mark Casse Jockey: Edwin Gonzalez
Respected as 2019 Belmont Stakes winner, last seen taking out G3 Valedictory Stakes. This is a much tougher task and is making local debut. Does put in strong late work but the trip is a bit on the short side and the pace on the sharper side. Could find a way into the frame but that seems his ceiling here.

7 – TITLE READY
Trainer: Dallas Stewart Jockey: Tyler Gaffalione
Decent winner in the Louisiana Stakes last year, couldn’t back it up when sent to Meydan for Dubai World Cup. Took a long break after and couldn’t make much of an impression when 3rd and 6th in last couple. Look elsewhere.
8 – ENDORSED
Trainer: Mike Maker Jockey: Umberto Rispoli
Has posted a couple of useful runner-up finishes since joining Mike Maker. Has done some useful sprinting, including here but comes across faster and classier rivals. Consider for an exotic but that is about it.

9 – COMMANDEER
Trainer: James Toner Jockey: Julien Leparoux
Did manage to take on older rivals successfully at Laurel Park in October and backed up well enough in the slop at Churchill Downs. This is his first stakes event and is local debut. Lot of work to do to even come close to being a player and is highly unlikely to find much of a place here. Look elsewhere.
