1 – PERSIAN KNIGHT

Trainer: Yasutoshi Ikee Jockey: Cristian Demuro

Found the frame in the G3 Challenge Cup and G2 Sapporo Kinen. This will take improvement but does have the ability, aptitude for this trip is uncertain.

2 – PANTHALASSA

Trainer: Yoshito Yahagi Jockey: Yuji Hishida

Has won last 2 in good spirits and seemed dominant with 3 in hand in G3 Fukushima Kinen. Not a bad option if you get a price.

3 – MOZU BELLO

Trainer: Naoyuki Morita Jockey: Kenichi Ikezoe

Has placed here and over this trip elsewhere. Hasn’t landed a blow since striking the crossbar in G1 Osaka Hai back in April. Can’t be ruled out but seems a bit outclassed.

4 – MELODY LANE

Trainer: Naoyuki Morita Jockey: Mirai Iwata

No experience over track or trip, last seen winning a handicap. Not a bad horse but definitely outclassed here.

5 – DEEP BOND

Trainer: Ryuji Okubo Jockey: Ryuji Wada

Last seen beating none home in Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe at Longchamp in Paris. Really didn’t take to the conditions there, neither did Chrono Genesis on that note. Prior effort was a good win in the G2 Prix Foy at the same track. An excellent stayer, he should relish this trip.

6 – WIN KIITOS

Trainer: Yoshitada Munakata Jockey: Yuji Tannai

Took out G2 Meguro Kinen in May but couldn’t land a blow in G2 Sapporo Kinen when 9th. Bounced right back when 2nd in G23 Sankei Sho but was downfield in G1 Queen Elizabeth Cup. Another not entirely out of it but does seem somewhat inconsistent.

7 – CHRONO GENESIS

Trainer: Takashi Saito Jockey: Christophe Lemaire

Defending champ, won this last year. This is her final outing and she’s a serious contender for a 5th G1 victory. Christophe Lemaire is working well with her since Yuichi Kitamura injured himself.

8 –YOU CAN SMILE

Trainer: Yasuo Tomomichi Jockey: Yusuke Fujioka

Not a lot to write home about but recent highlight has to be 2nd in G2 Hanshin Daishoten in March over 3000m. Look elsewhere.

9 – STELLA VELOCE

Trainer: Naosuke Sugai Jockey: Mirco Demuro

A respectable 4th ion the Kikuka Sho and strong 2nd in the Asahi Hai last year. A versatile colt, could go well paired with Mirco Demuro. Check the betting.

10 – EFFORIA

Trainer: Yuichi Shikato Jockey: Takeshi Yokoyama

Too out the Satsuki Sho and Tenno Sho this year, proven effective at this course. 100m up in trip won’t hurt chances. Connections very happy with preparations. Big player.

11 – ARISTOTELES

Trainer: Hidetaka Otonashi Jockey: Yutaka Take

Took out the G2 American Jockey Club Cup here back in January. Not a big player but track experience and some mildly promising form make for a bit of a wildcard.

12 – SHADOW DIVA

Trainer: Makoto Saito Jockey: Norihiro Yokoyama

Interesting going above 2400m for first time, 100m should not be of much concern. A nice winner of the G2 Ireland Trophy Fuchu Himba Stakes. Has good local form and wasn’t disgraced in 7th in Japan Cup.

13 – AKAI ITO

Trainer: Kazuya Nakatake Jockey: Hideaki Miyuki

Took out the Queen Elizabeth II Cup at Hanshin on first attempt at top level racing. Really came to life when paired with Hideaki Miyuki. First time coming up against the boys, has some local experience but trip suitability taken on trust.

14 – ASAMANO ITAZURA

Trainer: Takahisa Tezuka Jockey: Hironobu Tanabe

Solid local record, a couple of wins and placings here from 6 attempts. Trip might be some concern. Took out G2 St Lite Kinen on penultimate run and could lift for this task.

15 – KISEKI

Trainer: Yasuyuki Tsujino Jockey: Kohei Matsuyama

Proven at this level albeit back in 2017 in Kikuka Sho, that was his last victory. He is hard to win with but is excellent at finding the place. Consider an each-way or place bet.

16 – TITLEHOLDER

Trainer: Toru Kurita Jockey: Kazuo Yokoyama

Bolted home with the Kikuka Sho with 5 in hand and performs well at Nakayama. Interesting to see how Kazuo Yokoyama goes in his brother’s stead. Another big player.
